Tattoo Aftercare Guide
Please note: The advice below applies only to tattoos done by Ash / Sncotattoos. Every artist works in a different style and may recommend different aftercare methods. If you’ve been tattooed by another artist, please follow their specific advice.
Once you leave the studio, it’s entirely up to you to care for your tattoo properly. Following the steps below will give your tattoo the best chance to heal cleanly and stay looking great.
General Tips
Always wash your hands before touching your tattoo.
Keep the area clean and moisturised, but not overly wet or greasy.
Avoid direct sun exposure and excessive friction during healing.
Step-by-Step Healing Instructions
1. First Few Hours
Leave the cling film/wrap on for 2–3 hours after your appointment.
After removing it, do not re-wrap the tattoo.
2. First Wash
Once unwrapped, gently wash your tattoo with warm, soapy water (unscented).
It’s normal to see excess cream or plasma — wash this off gently.
Let the tattoo air dry, and leave it for the rest of the day without moisturising.
3. Days 2–14
Gently wash and air dry the tattoo once or twice daily.
Once dry, apply a small amount of unscented moisturiser.
Recommended: Palmer’s Cocoa Butter (in the tub)
Moisturise 1-2 times per day for the first two weeks.
After two weeks, reduce to 1 time per day.
Long-Term Care
Use SPF on your tattoo once healed — sun exposure can fade tattoos over time.
Even fully healed tattoos benefit from sun protection.
What’s Normal
You may notice:
Peeling, flaking, and mild scabbing — this is completely normal.
Mild itching — you can gently pat the area, but avoid scratching.
Don’t pick scabs — this can damage the tattoo and affect how it heals.
Avoid for 14 Days:
Baths (showering is fine)
Swimming
Hot tubs and saunas
Heavy sweating (especially for the first 7 days)
Sun beds and fake tanning
